USC makes it back-to-back, nips USPF
CEBU CITY—The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors continued to build momentum as they snagged a second straight win after beating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 66-60, in the 2018 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday, September 30, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The mini streak pushed the Warriors to the sixth spot in the team standings of the seven-team field with four wins and six losses.
USC’s Nigerian import Sommy Managor came away with a dominating performance as he piled up 21 points and 12 rebounds.
John Reel Saycon and Jules Langres backed Managor with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
RR Cauba led the way for the Panthers, who fell to 5-5 (win-loss).
The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters lead the standings with an 8-1 slate followed by University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars and the University of the Visayas (UV) Lancers, who are tied at second place with similar 6-3 records.
The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras and the surging Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats are tied for the seventh and eighth spots with 2-7 ledgers.
Meanwhile, the story of the day belonged to the UV Baby Lancers, who handed the CIT-U Wildkittens a 51-point beatdown, 118-67.
Joshua Yerro led UV’s merciless demolition by putting up 29 points, 22 rebounds, six assists and three steals as the Baby Lancers stayed perfect at 6-0.
The outmatched CIT-U tasted its fifth defeat in seven games.
