THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers picked up their seventh wins after dominating their respective opponents in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament on Saturday, October 26, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Webmasters vanquished the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 74-64, while the three-time defending champions Green Lancers drubbed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 85-69.
The Webmasters and the Green Lancers now share the second spot of the team standings with similar 7-3 (win-loss).
Should the two squads end up with the same records after the double-round eliminations, UC will be the higher seed after they swept the Green Lancers in their two meetings in the intial round.
Darrell Shane Menina led UC’s charge with 34 points. Tosh Sesay produced big numbers anew for UC with 12 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and an assist.
Sommy Managor scored 19 points, while Kurt Trangia pitched in 13 for the Warriors, who dropped to 7-4.
Melvin Butohan, on the other hand, helped UV snap a two-game slide by tallying 20 points and seven rebounds.
Michael Maestre and Froilan Maglasang backed Butohan with 12 points each.
Karl Malone Ventura wound up with 15 points and John Jabonete had 14 in CIT-U’s seventh loss in nine games.
