TNT stays spotless; Blackwater gets 1st win in Govs’ Cup

TNT Tropang Giga stayed undefeated in the 47th PBA Governors’ Cup after scoring a come-from-behind 105-100 win over the hard-luck Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Friday night at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

The Tropa improved to 2-0 (win-loss), getting a good follow-up of their 123-119 win over the Phoenix Fuel Masters last Wednesday.

TNT, however, had to scramble in this one as they needed to overcome a 36-49 halftime deficit to keep their slate spotless.

Led by Jalen Hudson, RR Pogoy and Mikey Williams, the Tropa exploded for 44 points in the third quarter to move within 80-84, going into the final quarter.

TNT sustained the momentum in the payoff period as Rain or Shine stumbled to their second loss in as many games.

Williams tallied 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in a solid-around game.

Hudson finished with 24 points, while Pogoy chipped in 22 markers.

Michael Qualls topped the Elasto Painters 35 markers and 17 rebounds.

In the first game, the Blackwater Elite barged into the win column via a tight 108-105 win over Phoenix Super LPG.

Shawn Glover collected 31 points and 13 rebounds, helping Blackwater bounce back from a 102-124 blowout loss to the NLEX Road Warriors last Wednesday.

Baser Amer  backed Glover with 17 points while Ato Ular added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Du’vaughnn Maxwell registered game-highs of 37 points and 17 rebounds but his monster showing failed to save Phoenix from crashing to 0-2.
