The defending NCAA Champions, San Beda College Red Lions, stomped over the Arellano University Chiefs, 95-70 on Tuesday, as they ended the first round with an 8-1 slate in the team standings in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

From last year’s Finals face-off, Robert Bolick and Javee Mocon once again paced the Red Lions to injure the Chiefs in the second period to turn a close game in the first frame, 23-18, to a 48-30 halftime advantage following a destructive 20-3 run.

The Red Lions kept their pacing and took the comfortable lead as high as 28 points until the end of the game.

“We are happy we got this win to finish the first round with only one loss. At least, we’re two games ahead of third-running JRU,” said Coach Boyet Fernandez. “We always take good care of ourselves and look forward to winning more games.”

San Beda is currently running second with a seven-game winning streak behind league-leading Lyceum Pirates, while the Arellano Chiefs dropped to a 3-6 win-loss record.

Bolick finished with an impressive 23 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Mocon had a double-double record of 19 points, 14 rebounds and two steals. Donald Tankoua also added 15 points, five rebounds and six assists.

Kent Salado led Arellano, but his game-high 26 points, two rebounds and two assists was not enough to push the Chiefs to claim the win. Lervin Flores had 10 points and six rebounds.
