BOCAUE, Bulacan – Filipina Janine Pontejos and Ukrainian Dmytro Krivenko headlined the Shoot-Out and Slam Dunk contests, respectively as they both took home gold medals for their countries.
Pontejos prevailed at the Shoot-Out contest after draining in 12 shots and two bonus balls to a total score of 14 points. The Perlas Pilipinas player had the same number of points as Russia’s Alexandra Stolyar, but Pontejos finished faster with 41.86 seconds compared to 49.92 seconds of Stolyar.
Pontejos’ win is the first medal of the Philippines at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup.
Stolyar took home the silver medal, while Hrvoje Marin of Croatia ended up with bronze after scoring 11 points. Russia’s Maksim Dybovskii had 8 points and finished in fourth place.
On the other hand, dunker Krivenko continued amazing spectators with his “Smoove” after scoring a total of 51 points for his act in the semi-finals and 79 points in the finals.
He defeated Guy “Frequent Flyer” Dupuy from France in the finals, despite Dupuy scoring a perfect 30 points in the last two dunks.
Meanwhile, Filipino dunker David “AirDavid” Carlos bagged the bronze medal.
