Manila, Philippines – University of Perpetual Help is on a hot streak after defeating San Sebastian College-Recoletos anew in an overtime game, 85-77 on Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Perpetual claimed their fifth consecutive win in the tournament to lift their place in the team standings with a 10-5 win-loss slate, which also strengthened their position at the Final Four race.
The Altas made it look so easy starting the game with an eight-point lead in the first quarter, 17-9, and stretched it up to nine points to end the first half of the game, 30-21. However, the Golden Stags came alive after the break and went to a 22-19 rally that cut their deficit to only six points, 49-43.
San Sebastian looked like they were just going to lose the game to Perpetual in the fourth quarter, but Alyn Bulanadi and Alvin Capobres knocked down the crucial baskets down the stretch that tied the game at 69-all.
In what could have been the Golden Stags’ time to retaliate, the Altas’ strengthened their defenses and prohibited them from nearing the basket.
Perpetual limited San Sebastian to only eight points in the overtime period as AJ Coronel and Tonton Peralta rained three’s to seal the win.
Prince Eze led Perpetual with a double-double of 25 points and 23 rebounds, on top of four blocks, while Coronel chipped in 15 markers, six boards and five assists.
Razon had 13 points, while Edgar Charcos finished with 12 markers and seven assists.
On the other hand, Alvin Capobres led San Sebastian with 18 points.
