After settling to secondplace in the first round, the De La Salle University Lady Spikers finally reached the top spot with an emphatic straight set win over the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Wednesday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.
La Salle quickly finished the game that only lasted for 73 minutes, banking on their heavy service game to demolish the floor defense of UP. They made it rain from the service line with 15 service aces, five of which came from Kim Kianna Dy.
Down 2-0, the Lady Maroons recovered and started strong in the third set with an early 3-0 lead. They extended the advantage but the Lady Spikers wasted no time and stole the lead at 12-11.
UP just hanged on, 17-18, but a timeout from Coach Ramil De Jesus ignited a run for the Lady Spikers to pull away and complete the sweep.
Season 78 and 79 Finals MVPs Desiree Cheng and Kim Kianna Dy led the way for La Salle with 14 points apiece. While AdukeOgunsanya and Tin Tiamzon teamed up for 17 markers.
Only Tots Carlos and Isa Molde carried the scoring load for UP with 16 and 10 points, respectively, as the next Lady Maroon behind them only scored three.
