Manila, Philippines – The race is on for running hopefuls and elites as the premier race series RUNRIO Trilogy 2019 kicks off on April 7 for its first leg at the Mall of Asia Grounds, Pasay City. The pilot race expects to see more than 6,000 contingents.
The RUNRIO Trilogy brings forth a unique running experience that highlights “progression running” by which runners can advance to longer-distance categories in higher-level races that lead up to the full marathon.
The race series will be spread throughout in three different legs within a six-month period from April to September, giving runners enough time to recuperate and train in between. The first leg of the three-part series, also known as the Half Marathon, will feature the 21K race as the main event along with the 5K and 10K distance categories.
“The RUNRIO Trilogy is for avid runners who want to push their limits and be the best that they can be,” said Coach Rio de la Cruz, creator of the RUNRIO Trilogy Race Series. “As we embark on our 9th year of the RUNRIO Trilogy, we hope to inspire more runners and countless others to discover their strengths and drive their passion for running,” he said.
Following the first leg (April 7) is the Afroman Distance (Second Leg, June 16) that will highlight the 32K distance, in addition to the 5K, 10K, and 21K categories. After which, the competition will cap off in the third and last leg (September 22) called the Philippine Marathon that features the 42K race category as the centerpiece event, in addition to the 5K, 10K, and 21K races. The series will culminate in an awarding ceremony where prominent runners who have completed the races will be recognized.
With its successful year-on-year iterations, RUNRIO Trilogy will continue to offer exciting features to enrich the participant’s running experience. Winners of the different Age-Group categories will each get an entry ticket to run the Chicago Marathon courtesy of Gatorade.
Additionally, 5K and 10K runners who will complete the race will now be given a finisher’s medal to mark their achievements. Similar to its previous editions, finishers of the 21K, 32K, and 42K categories will receive interconnecting medals as they compete each leg.
RUNRIO also takes into consideration the conservation of the environment, and as such, the RUNRIO Trilogy will implement a “Bring Your Own Bottle” policy by providing reusable hydration bottles to help reduce plastic pollution.
“These incentives and features are our way of making the RUNRIO Trilogy not only memorable and enjoyable, but also worthwhile for our participants and the environment,” de la Cruz said.
Until April 5, interested participants can register in-store at the following authorized venues: Olympic Village in Trinoma, Market! Market!, Glorietta 2, and Alabang Town Center branches, and Sportshouse Mall of Asia.
Registration fee for 5K is Php 1,000.00, 10K is Php 1,200.00, and 21K is 1,800.00. Registrants will receive a race kit that includes a drawstring bag, singlet and a hydration bottle.
