Manila, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines University showed their dominance against Colegio de San Juan de Letran and took a 109-85 win in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
With the win, the Pirates improved to a 15-3 win-loss record and clinched their spot in the Finals for the second consecutive year.
Lyceum initiated a 29-16 lead in the first quarter, but Letran was no easy team to defeat as they outran the Pirates, 31-22, in the second quarter that cut their deficit to four at the half, 51-47.
Koy Galvelo knocked down a triple in the last six minutes in the third quarter, which pushed Letran within one, 55-56, in the third quarter.
But Jaycee Marcelino answered back with his own triple that boosted Lyceum for a much-needed 15-0 run and gave them back a double-digit lead, 70-56.
The Pirates never stopped there and led by as much as 37 points, 105-68, until they cruised to victory.
Mike Nzeusseu led Lyceum with a 23-point, 17-rebound double-double, while CJ Perez had 19 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists off the bench.
Jaycee Marcelino and Spencer Pretta chipped in 15 markers each.
On the other hand, Larry Muyang had 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Bong Quinto added 12 points and six boards in the losing effort.
