LYCEUM COMPLETES FIRST-ROUND SWEEP AT EXPENSE OF MAPUA

Lyceum of the Philippines University stays atop the standings after sweeping the first round in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament, beating Mapua University, 97-74 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Pirates limited Mapua with just eight points in the first quarter. Kim Magboo stretchered out of the game after hurting his left knee in the opening period injured Mapua’s line up as well, limiting the squad with only eight players to battle out with the unbeatable Lyceum.
Lyceum led by as much as 32 points after CJ Perez’ lay-up in the third quarter, 78-46, 1:49 ticks to play.
Perez led the Pirates with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Wilson Baltazar had 12 points.
Due to a big lead in the game, third stringer Jeffrey Santos and Spencer Pretta was able to contribute nine points each for their ninth win in the season. Lyceum’s bench also scores 53 points.
The Lyceum Pirates remains unbeatable in the first round with a 9-0 run, however, Coach Topex Robinson says there are still battles to conquer in the second round of the season.
“As much as okay na sana, we still have nine more games to play and we have to work on our turnovers kasi yun yung problema namin,” said Robinson.
On the other hand, Christian Bunag paced the Mapua Cardinals with a double-double record of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while JB Raflores had 16 points on top of eight rebounds.
Mapua is set to cap of the first round with their last game on Tuesday against the JRU Heavy Bombers.
