La Salle opens title defense bid with dominant win over Adamson

By Ardyn Gonzales

The defending champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers started the season on a winning note after sweeping the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Reigning ROY-MVP Angel Canino led La Salle with 14 points on 11 attacks and three blocks, with sophomore Shevana Laput contributing 11 markers.

Up 2-0 in the match, the Lady Spikers did not show any first day jitters as they quickly built a 17-10 lead in the third set courtesy of the offense of Canino and Thea Gagate.

Even after inserting La Salle’s second stringers, momentum has stayed with the defending champions until the latter part of the set, 24-16.

Adamson was able to save two match points but a service error ended the match in favor of the ladies in green.

La Salle tallied 10 kill blocks in just three sets, giving Coach Ramil his overall 300th win in the UAAP.

Meanwile, Ishi Lalongisip and Lucille Almonte led Adamson with six ponts apiece.
