Manila, Philippines – Jed Mendoza dropped a career-best for the Jose Rizal University to defeat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 81-78, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Mendoza had 26 points on top of three rebounds and three assists.
He shot 12 of his total number of points in the payoff period that helped the Heavy Bombers overcome the Generals and improved to a 3-13 win-loss record in the tournament for ninth place.
Aaron Bourdon came alive down the stretch as he knocked down a layup in the last seven ticks in the game – the last score that sealed the win.
Darius Estrella chipped in 17 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Leo Esguerra had 10 markers.
On the other hand, JP Magullano led the Generals with a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
JRU will last face the College of St. Benilde and look into extending their wins to four to end their season 94 journey, while the Generals stand at 10th overall with a 4-14 slate.
