BOCAUE, Bulacan – Gilas Pilipinas failed to secure a spot into the quarterfinals of FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2018 after a heartbreaking loss against Canada, 20-19 on Monday at the Philippine Arena.
A tough competition for both teams, Canada and Philippines had a hard time getting away from continuous dreadlocks in the game.
Roger Pogoy shot back-to-back two-pointers for Gilas Pilipinas that tied the game at 16-16 in the last 1:23 minutes. Canada was facing foul trouble, giving the Philippine team a chance to lead the match with Pogoy then shooting two charities, 18-16.
However, team Canada’s Michael Linklater’s dagger layup ended the game along with Gilas Pilipinas’ hope for the quarterfinals.
Pogoy led the Philippine team with 10 points and Christian Standhardinger paced with four points.
With the win, Canada advances to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 record and tops the teams in Pool C. Mongolia follows second place in the pool after winning against Russia, 21-18.
