From being an ordinary student-athlete, Javee Mocon is now one of San Beda’s star baller and currently making impact in NCAA Season 94 Finals.
As part of a champion team since he started in San Beda, young Javee showed grace under pressure in every game he played. Obviously, this didn’t happen overnight. There were setbacks and frustrations along the way but, he overcame it and become the man he is today.
Looking back at his early days, Mocon told us that he was seven years old when he started playing basketball and was influenced by his father and his three brothers. He immediately fell in love with the game and in fact helped him in his financial needs as a student.
“Basketball changed my life. Aside from the financial help that it brings to my family, I became close to God because in this kind of field, you need to hold onto something to get through everything and that is my family and God.”
From San Beda High School-Rizal to San Beda-Mendiola, Mocon showed how much potential and asset he can be to the team ever since he was a rookie.
Of course, aside from the actual basketball practices and guidance from his coaches, Javee said that it was his father who really helped shaped him inside and outside the court. Javee admitted that his father constantly reminded him how tough life can be, which pushed him to become a better player and person.
“Si Papa talaga who really molded me to be a good person in or out of the court. Siya laging nagbibigay sakin ng mga hard truths na other people can’t tell me kasi, he knows it’ll hurt me. Pero I know my father just wants the best for me.”
Today, Mocon is currently in his fourth year of playing with the Red Lions. And as one of the key players in his team which includes three championships under his belt, it still isn’t enough for him (Even after being part of the Gilas Pool).
Of course, every basketball player aims to play in the PBA and even if there’s still a long way to go for Javee, he is dedicated to be part of the big boy’s league.
“[Most likely] PBA draft [because] playing at the highest level and being able to cut it there…that’s the dream.”
