Down two sets to one, the Ateneo de Manila University sans head coach Tai Bundit pulled off a come-from-behind-win against the Far Eastern University in the first five-setter match in the UAAP season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11, Sunday afternoon at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
Coming into the game both with 1-1 win-loss card, the Lady Eagles and Lady Tamarawas were determined to break the tie with a win.
The strong floor defense of the Lady Tamaraws was the key in winning the second and third set but it was nowhere to be found on the fourth set giving Ateneo a chance to pull off a comeback.
Although it was Mich Morente and Jho Maraguinot who led the Lady Eagles with 17 and 18 points respectively, Kim Gequillana who played off the bench tallied scores in the most crucial parts of the game especially her service ace which concluded the match in their favor.
Bernadette Pons was the top scorer for FEU with 18 points.
Player of the Game: Kim Gequillana, 9 points (4 attacks and 5 service aces)
