With only one spot remaining in the Final Four, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws are still in a good position for the semis slot as they took down the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After losing the first set no thanks to their reception woes, the Lady Tamaraws adjusted quickly in the succeeding sets. Chen Tagaod and Gerzel Petallo came alive particularly in the fourth set, where FEU overcame a 16-19 deficit with a 6-0 run.
With momentum on their side, Tagaod led the charge with the finishing touches as they tallied a much-needed win over their fellow semis contender.
Tagaod and Faida Bakanke made their presence felt with 16 points each, while Petallo chipped in 15 markers. Julianne Monares changed things up off the bench as she dished out 20 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions after FEU struggled with their defense early on.
Meanwhile, despite losing the game, the Lady Eagles showed an impressive performance as four players finished in double digits led by Lyann de Guzman with 15 points.
FEU now has a 5-4 record while Ateneo moves down to 3-7.
