The De La Salle University Lady Spikers prevailed over the National University Lady Bulldogs in a straight-set sweep, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10, to maintain share of second spot in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday, at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
After succumbing to UP in their previous game, La Salle only had three days to forget the disappointing loss and prepare for their match against NU.
Fortunately, the Lady Spikers were in championship form in this match after dominating the Lady Bulldogs in the scoring departments while minimizing their unforced errors to just 10 in three sets.
With a 2-0 advantage in the match, La Salle punished NU in the third set as they almost held down the score of the Lady Bulldogs to a single-digit output, 24-9. Ivy Lacsina saved one match point with a through-the-block attack, but she followed it with an attack error that ended the game in favor of the defending champions.
Team captain Desiree Cheng led La Salle with 17 points off 14 attacks, two aces, and a kill block. While Tin Tiamzon and Des Clemente connived for 20 points.
Libero Jennifer Nierva stood out for the Lady Bulldogs with 18 excellent digs and 32 excellent receptions, but her impressive defense did not translate to points as NU struggled with their offense with only 34 attacks out of 111 attempts. Only Roselyn Doria scored in double-digits for NU with 11 markers.
La Salle is currently tied at the second spot with UST and will face each other in their next game.
