BOLICK LEADS SAN BEDA PAST RIVAL LETRAN

The San Beda Red Lions recovered from a bad game in the first half and soon outlasted its archrivals Letran Knights, 81-74 at the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Letran almost made a late rally to conquer the Red Lions in the last five minutes of the game with Rey Nambatac and Jeremiah Taladua cut the deficit to two, 67-65, after their consecutive free throw shots.

However, JaveeMocon scored a basket for the Red Lions and assisted on Benedict Adamon and Robert Bolick’s crucial shots, to make a much better comfortable lead, 74-67 with three ticks left to play. It was Mocon’s dagger shots that sealed the win for the Red Lions.

AC Soberano boosted the Red Lions in the second half after firing 11 of his 16 points in the second half after a devastating 27-34 deficit from the Knights.

“I challenged them to stick with our system, stick with our game plan and play as a team,” said San Beda Coach Boyet Fernandez.

Bolick had 22 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Red Lions, while Mocon had an almost triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Soberano added 16 markers.

JerrickBalanza had a career-high 20 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Bong Quinto added a double-double record of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Nambatac finished with 18 markers and five boards.

San Beda rises up to the ladder with 4-1 win-loss record in the team standings while Letran fell to a 1-3 slate.
