MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo De Manila University continues to be unscathed in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament after defeating Far Eastern University, 63-46, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
They said first impressions last and so did Ateneo’s impressive start in the game. The Blue Eagles went for an 11-0 blast in the first quarter, eventually limiting the Tamaraws to only six points, 18-6.
Ateneo kept a comfortable lead and stretched it to as much as 19 points and they never looked back from there.
“Our boys, credit for the job they did on defense,” said Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin said post-game. “I thought we did a good job, you know, holding the line, it was good to get everybody off the bench tonight, and you know, get them into their first UAAP experiences.”
Ange Kouame topped Ateneo with a double-double record of 14 points and 12 reboundss, while Adrian Wong had his best game yet with 13 markers and five assists. Thirdy Ravena added his own 12-point, 10-rebound double-double record as Ateneo continued to improve to a perfect 4-0 slate.
On the other hand, FEU players were limited to only single-digit outputs in the game. Barkley Ebona and Xyrus Torres led FEU with eight points each as they dropped to 1-2 win-loss record.
