MANILA, Philippines – After six consecutive losses, College of St. Benilde finally returns to the winning column at the expense of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 62-56, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
“At least, we got back to our winning ways. We’ve been preaching that whatever happens, we win or we learn,” head coach TY Tang said post-game as their last win was back in August 30 against Jose Rizal University. “We’re just going to keep on fighting.”
Trailing by one point at the half, Benilde orchestrated a 9-0 run in the third quarter to clinch a 52-44 advantage. But, the Generals were not just about to go down without a fight.
EAC cut the deficit to two, 56-58, with only 67 seconds left in the game. However, the Blazers strengthened their defense to block the Generals from making any shots as Yankie Haruna put on the finishing touches to finally nab the victory.
Haruna led CSB with 16 points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while Justin Gutang had 12 markers, six boards, and two assists off the bench as they improved to a 7-8 win-loss record.
On the other hand, JP Maguliano led EAC with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double as they suffered their 13th loss in 16 outings.
