The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles remain atop the standings after a dominating sweep of the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-21, 25-10, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
After outlasing FEU in the opening set, Ateneo then jumped off to a 14-2 start in the second frame. With the Lady Tamaraws struggling with their offense and defense, the Lady Eagles easily got the 2-0 advantage in the match, after holding down FEU in just 10 points.
FEU showed signs of life in the third set after mounting a three-point lead heading into the first technical timeout, but their own unforced errors gave back the momentum to the Lady Eagles who took over the lead and never looked back to complete the sweep.
Ponggay Gaston and Kat Tolentino led Ateneo with 11 points apiece, while Jules Samonte, Bea de Leon, and Maddie Madayag each had 7 markers of their own.
Meanwhile, no Lady Tamaraw scored in double-digits as team captain Jerilli Malabanan only had team-high 8 points followed by Heather Guino-o with 7.
Ateneo extended its winning streak to nine games for a 9-1 win-loss record, while FEU dropped to 6-4 slate, tied with UST and FEU.
