The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles overpowered the Adamson University Lady Falcons in a five-set aerial battle, 25-18, 14-25, 25-18, 15-25, 15-10 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Wednesday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

It was a rollercoaster game for Ateneo, winning the first and third sets with their strong blocking as the main factor, then losing the second and fourth frames because of their own unforced errors.

Coming into the deciding set without the momentum on their side, the Lady Eagles were able to recover and maintain their lead over the Lady Falcons heading into the second technical timeout.

Adamson tried to inch closer and cut down the lead, 8-9, but Ateneo answered back with off-the-block hits to stretch the lead, 13-10. It was the blocking once again that did the job for the Lady Eagles as they got two consecutive game-clinching blocks all thanks to Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag.

Ateneo and Adamson almost had the same numbers in this game but it was the blocking of the Lady Eagles that made the difference as they out-blocked the Lady Falcons, 15-5.

Deanna Wong was able to come up with equally-distributed sets having four attackers in double-digits: JhoannaMaraguinot had 15 points, Jules Samonte and Maddie Madayag both with 14, and Kat Tolentino adding 10 of her own.

Former La Salle player Eli Soyud finally had a breakout game this season after being benched in their past games, leading Adamson with 19 markers.

Player of the Game: Maddie Madayag, 14 points (7 attacks, 4 blocks, 3 service aces)
