CEBU CITY – Argao snatched the Second District crown after it blew out Samboan, 91-69, in the 2019 Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament last Saturday, April 6, at the Sec. Cerge M. Remonde Sports and Cultural Center in Argao, Southern Cebu.
The win netted Argao the P100,000 cash prize and a seat in the crossover quarterfinal round.
Despite the loss, Samboan also qualified to the quarters, which will start on April 10.
Leandro Manloloyo showed the way for Argao with 23 points, Jomari Parantar donated, while Jimwell Torion Jr. contributed 12.
John Rosal paced Samboan with 15 points, Raphael Dinampo and Eves Manolong contributed 11 and 10, respectively.
In the Fourth District, Medellin didn’t disappoint the home crowd after it prevailed in its title duel against Tabuelan, 90-87,
Fritz Saladaga helped Medellin cop the district crown by firing 22 points.
Danao City, on the other hand, bagged the Fifth District championship by beating Sogod, 82-78.
Ace Rondina and Carl Molina led Danao with 15 points each, while Justin Mondares had 12.
The Seventh District crown, on the other hand, went to Dumanjug, which came from behind to defeat Alegria, 90-87,
Meanwhile, the bracketing for the quarterfinal round was finalized during the league’s coordination meeting last Saturday.
Bracket A will be composed of Dumanjug, Danao City, Medellin, Balamban, Argao, Samboan and the champion in the Sixth District.
Comprising Bracket B are Tuburan, Sogod, Minglanilla, Alegria, Talisay City, Tabuelan and the runner-up in the Sixth District.
