MANILA, Philippines – Jerrick Ahanmisi boosted Adamson University to win over University of the East, 91-80, in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Colisem.
Ahanmisi dropped 28 points as the Soaring Falcons improved to a 2-1 win-loss record, while keeping the Red Warriors winless as they dropped to a 0-3 slate.
“I don’t think we’re at the best that we can play yet,” Ahanmisi said. “I think we’re still gonna get there, in time. But today was a really good win for us.”
Adamson was in full control of the game comfortably sitting on a 13-point cushion in the final period, 82-69.
But, UE was not yet done with the battle as Rey Suerte led the pack for a 6-0 run to inch within seven, 75-82, 2:47 left in the game.
Adamson answered with back-to-back baskets from Ahanmisi and Lenda Douanga, silencing the Warriors. With an 88-75 lead, the Falcons cruised to victory from there as time expired.
“Hopefully this game can really help us adjust in the next remaining games,” Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren said post-game. “Of course, you have to give credit to UE, they really played well. I think this is one of their best games the last three games.”
Jerom Lastimosa added 16 points and six assists, while Val Chauca added 13 markers. Douanga added an 11-point, 16-rebound double-double in the win.
For UE, Suerte finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Jed Mendoza added 17 markers and four assists in the losing effort.
