After a disappointing season opener, the Adamson University Lady Falcons bounced back in a tight five-set match over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12 in UAAP women’s volleyball , Saturday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
Coming from a big win against Ateneo in their game, FEU started slow in the first set, but was able to recover in the second frame.
However, the adjustment of Adamson coach Air Padda putting the veteran Mylene Paat in the opposite andfielding in Lea Perez as the middle blocker, did wonders for the Lady Falcos as they were able to push the Lady Tamaraws to their limit.
FEU was able to extend the match in a deciding fifth set and tried to stage a comeback, 12-14, but after a timeout by coach Air, Jema Galanza came up with a thunderous off-the-block hit that gave the win to the Lady Falcons.
Team captain Galanza had MVP numbers with a triple-double output: 25 attacks, 15 excellent digs and 17 excellent receptions. But Galanza had much-needed help as three Lady Falcons also scored in double-digits, with Mylene Paat having 13 points, Joy Dacoron having 12, and rookie Chiara Permentilla having 11 of her own.
FEU’s Bernadette Pons was also all over the stat sheet with 21 attacks, 16 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.
It was a morale-booster win for Adamson as they only tallied one win last season. This year, parading astrong line-up, they are looking to bring back the winning tradition they lost after Season 76, the last time that they entered the Final Four.
Adamson aims to start a winning streak as they take on the UP Lady Maroons on Wednesday, February 14.
Player of the Game: Jema Galanza, 26 points (25 attacks, 15 excellent digs and 17 excellent receptions).
