Adamson fends off Ateneo, maintains hold of second spot

By Ardyn Gonzales

The Adamson University Lady Falcons swept the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles in straight sets, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The lefty duo of Adamson Kate Santiago and Trisha Tubu was unstoppable, finishing with 18 and 17 markers, respectively.

Up 2-0, Adamson established a comfortable lead in the latter part of the third set, 22-16, before Ateneo started a 5-0 run courtesy of three consecutive points from the service line.

The Lady Falcons responded to reach match point but a successful challenge on the attack of Faith Nisperos forced a deadlock and extended the match, 24-all.

However, Adamson showed no mercy as they quickly ended the hopes of Ateneo through the attacks of Tubu and Lucille Almonte.

The Lady Falcons completed an elimination round sweep and turned the table around against their usual tormentors Lady Eagles.

Faith Nisperos was the lone star for Ateneo with team-high 17 points as the Lady Eagles drop to 3-6
