University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses tallied their first victory after sweeping the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-16, 28-26, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Eya Laure was all over the stats sheet with 14 attacks, two blocks, one ace, and five excellent digs and receptions to lead the Lady Tigresses. Jonna Perdido played off the bench and contributed 12 points, while Renee Penafiel added 10.
After leading 1-0 in the match, UST saw themselves down by three in the crucial stretch of the second set, 19-22. They responded with a 3-0 run which forced a substitution from FEU, fielding in Chennie Tagaod in the frontline.
UST and FEU then exchanged points before the Lady Tigresses gained the advantage after a crosscourt attack from Renee Penafiel. Cassie Carballo then provided the last point through a kill block on FEU’s Alzza Devosora.
Momentum stayed in the side of Espana as UST registered their first win of the season. UST is now tied with FEU with a 1-1 win-loss card.
Meanwhile, Alyzza Devosora and Jovie Fernandez still had productive outputs for the Lady Tamaraws with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
