Manila, Philippines – After their first heartbreaking loss last week, Lyceum of the Philippines University is back on their winning ways after defeating the hapless Arellano University, 113-79 on Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Pirates now stand on a 13-1 slate and claimed a spot in the Final Four of the tournament, their bounce-back game after absorbing their first elimination round loss in two seasons to Perpetual Help last week.
Lyceum was off to a strong start from the get-go and initiated a 10-point lead in the first quarter, 25-15, and extended it to 16 coming into the second half of the game, 54-38.
They even led by as much as 39 points in the game, 113-74, in the final frame, which eventually led them to seal the deal.
The Pirates showed great tenacity in the game that they notched the highest score yet in the league of 113 and highest number of bench points as well with 81.
Jaycee Marcelino paved the way for the Pirates with 21 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists, while MJ Ayaay added 16 markers.
Spencer Pretta chipped in 15 points, while CJ Perez was all over the court as he exploded 10 markers, 10 boards and nine assists for the win.
Archie Concepcion had 16 markers, while Michael Canete had a double-double of 13 markers and 14 boards as the Chiefs dropped to a 4-9 win-loss record.
