CEBU CITY—The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats quenched their thirst for victory, while the defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers made it three in a row as they trampled separate opponents in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday night, September 25, at the Cebu Coliseum here.
The Wildcats banked on their highly touted rookie Kenny Rogers Rocacurva to upend the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 82-77, while the Green Lancers prevailed over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 76-71.
Rocacurva piled up 21 points, 13 rebounds and three assists to help CIT-U break into the win column after starting the season with seven straight losses.
It was a collective effort for the CIT-U as aside from Rocacurva, four other Wildcats scored in twin digits. Clark Con-Ui and Mark Christian Kong finished with 16 points apiece, Kevin Peter Oleodo added 15, while Jemcerson Sable pitched in 12.
Nigerian import Sommy Managor collected 24 points and 12 boards for the Warriors, who fell to 2-6 (win-loss).
UV, on the other hand, moved up to third place in the team standings with its sixth win in nine games.
USP-F dropped to fourth spot with a 5-3 slate.
Rey Suerte and Jancork Cabahug topped UV with 15 points apiece, while Josue Segumpan marked his return from a three-game absence with a 12 markers.
