UST’s Regieboy Basibas, the rookie from Leyte, lifted the spirits of UST hoping for a Final Four contention in a 77-65 win over University of the Philippines.
The unheralded rookie lifted the Tigers with a stellar performance when he scored a career-high 16 points and 18 big rebounds.
This is his biggest output after scoring the only 2 points for UST’s bench in their last game against FEU.
It was not an easy win for the España-based squad for they have also struggled in some instances due to the Maroons’ pesky defense and scoring.
Despite head coach Rey Madrid’s ejection due to 2 technical fouls in just the first quarter, the Fighting Maroons seemed to be fired up.
UP was led by spitfire guard Mikee Reyes who was on top of the score sheet with 22 points and 3 assists. He’s followed by team captain Mo Gingerich and rookie Diego Dario who both scored 9 points.
Alongside Basibas is veteran big man Karim Abdul who was on beast mode with his 21 points and 12 rebounds. Aljon Mariano and Louie Vigil also scored in double-digits with 13 and 11 respectively.
The scores:
UST (77) – Abdul 21, Basibas 16, Mariano 13, Vigil 11, Subido 7, Sheriff 4, Lo 2, Gayosa 2, Lao 1, Pe 0, Dela Cruz 0.
UP (65) – Reyes 22, Gingerich 9, Dario 9, Vito 8, Gallarza 7, Moralde 4, Lao 3, Juruena 3, Asilum 0, Amar 0, Harris 0, Bederi 0.
Quarterscores: 20-11; 36-29; 54-53; 77-65.
