The University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses pulled off a reverse sweep against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-7, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After surving La Salle in five sets in their last match up, UST saw themselves in a 0-2 deficit against FEU. They tallied glaring 14 unforced errors in the second set slone, giving freebies worth more than half of the Lady Tamaraws’ score.
FEU looked like they were pulling away in the third with a 16-12 advantage. But Angeline Poyos and Em Banagua, with the help of substitutes Xyza Gula and Mae Coronado, turned things around for the Lady Tigresses.
As UST slowly got their groove back, they forced a decider.
The Lady Tigresses continued their run in the fifth as they quickly built a 10-4 advantage. The lead ballooned to as much as eight before Gula took over in the frontline and completed the reverse sweep.
Poyos led UST anew with 24 points on 21 attacks, followed by Banagua and Gula with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Lady Tigresses survived and managed to overcome the 40 unforced errors, half of which came from the service line. Prior to this match, UST was one of the teams with the lowest number of errors committed on average.
The Lady Tigresses remain undefeated with a 4-0 record while the Lady Tamaraws suffered their second loss, 2-2.
