UST tallies third straight win, quells Nitura-led Adamson

The University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses clinched their third consecutive victory after taking down the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

After losing the second set, UST quickly regrouped and regained momentum in the third frame.

Adamson almost staged a successful comeback in the fourth to force a decider then they made a late run to force a deuce after being down 20-23. The Golden Tigresses and Lady Falcons exchanged points until Shaina Nitura committed an unfortunate attack error which gave the win to UST.

Angge Poyos once again led UST with 21 points, while Reg Jurado contributed 17 markers.

Rookie sensation Nitura carried Adamson with 28 points, with support coming from Frances Mordi who finished with 13 markers.

The Golden Tigresses remain at the second spot of the standings with a 3-1 record, while the Lady Falcons fall down to 2-2.
