University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses got their revenge over their last season’s tormentors Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles in straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
Rookie Regina Jurado once again led the Lady Tigresses with 15 points on team-high 12 attacks and three service aces. Jurado displayed an MVP performance in the third set where UST escaped a slim 14-12 lead to finish the match with an 11-2 run.
Ateneo almost accomplished a comeback in the second set but all hope was lost when Eya Laure pulled off a clutch pipe attack.
Laure chipped in 10 points but with Jurado leading the scoring, the former Season 81 Rookie of the Year contributed more on defense with 12 excellent digs and six receptions.
Meanwhile, Vanie Gandler, Lyann De Guzman, and Faith Nisperos all scores in double-digits but the effort was not enough to prevent Ateneo from falling down to a 1-5 win-loss record. They gave a set’s worth of score to UST after committing 25 unforced errors.
UST remains at solo fourth and will face UE in their next match up.
