CEBU CITY–The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panther pulled away late to post a 79-66 win over the struggling Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the senior’s division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men’s basketball tournament on Sunday, September 22, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Panthers nursed a slim 56-49 lead in the opening minute of the fourth quarter but racked up six unanswered points to build a double-digit cushion, 62-49.
The Wildcats roared back and cut the deficit to seven, 63-70, but Karl Langahin buried a three-pointer and the Panthers restored a double-digit spread, 73-63, with only 1:23 left.
American reinforcement Sameen Swint was unstoppable on the floor as he piled up 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Panthers listed their second win against the same number of defeats.
Alje Mendez also produced big numbers for USPF with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
CIT-U stayed winless after four games despite getting 20 points from Jesse Aloro.
Jan Jabonete collected 11 points and 13 rebounds in a losing cause.
