The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons finally ended their losing streak against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws after a four-set victory, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Fil-Oil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
The game was a rematch of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Finals wherein the Lady Maroons prevailed with a historic run in the championship match.
After a second set meltdown by UP, the Lady Maroons needed to surpass the rally of FEU in the next frame. After the 17-all deadlock, the PVL champs pulled away and took the 2-1 lead.
However, the win was not without a fight from the Lady Tamaraws as they threatened to stage a comeback in the fourth set when UP is already at match point, 16-24. Isa Molde then concluded the game with an off-the-block attack that sealed the second win of the Lady Maroons this season.
UP relied on the firepower of their wingers, team captain Tots Carlos, Isa Molde, and Justin Dorog who all scored in double-figures. It was the first win of UP against FEU in the UAAP since Season 76.
