The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons shrugged off a frustrating first set loss as they defeated the Adamson University Lady Falcons in four sets, 27-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

UP was off to a strong start in the first set as they led Adamson until the latter part, 22-18. But the lead was suddenly erased with the Lady Falcons making a run to fight back. Both teams exchanged points until a successful one-two play from MJ Igao completed the come-from-behind win of Adamson in the opening frame.

However, after the loss, the Lady Maroons swiftly turned things around as they dominated the Lady Falcons in the succeeding sets, this time maintaining the lead until closing out each set.

A quick attack from Marist Layug finished the game in favor of UP who ended the first round of eliminations tied with FEU in the fourth to fifth spot with 4-3 record, redeeming themselves from back-to-back losses in their previous games.

Off-season MVP’s Tots Carlos and Isa Molde each had 14 points for Lady Maroons, while Marist Layug supported the duo with 11 points.

Meanwhile, graduating seniors Joy Dacoron and Eli Soyud led Adamson with 15 and 10 points, respectively, as they suffered their sixth loss this season.
