The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons ended its four-game losing streak after defeating the University of the East Lady Warriors in four sets, 25-14, 18-25, 25-15, 25-10, March 15, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
After registering four consecutive wins early in the first round, UP suffered four straight losses which sent them from being at the top to the bottom half of the standings.
Now with another chance to be back in the win column, the Lady Maroons grabbed the opportunity, dominating the Lady Warriors in the match save for the second set where they faltered due to UE’s strong defense and to their own unforced errors.
Kathy Bersola was finally able to show her might at the net after her poor performance in the last four games, scoring 18 points built on 15 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace, behind the 21 points of sophomore Tots Carlos.
UE, on the other hand, was once again haunted by their problems in their third ball as despite the impressive saves by libero Kath Arado, the spikers of UE were only able to amass 24 attacks out of 115 attempts.
Shaya Adorador was the only Lady Warriors in double digits, but Arado also showed great defense tallying 14 excellent receptions and 28 excellent digs.
UP (5-4) will face the defending champion La Salle (7-2), while UE (1-8) will take on NU (5-4) both on March 19 at the same venue.
Player of the Game: Kathy Bersola, 18 points (15 attacks, 2 blocks, 1 service ace)
