CEBU CITY—The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters quickly erased the stigma of a bitter loss the last time out as they plastered the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 65-56, on Tuesday night, October 2, in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum here.
Paul Galinato collected 20 points, six rebounds and three steals to lead the Webmasters, who recovered from a big 75-81 upset loss to the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats last week.
Cameroonian import Frederick Elombi added 14 points, 21 rebounds and three steals, while John Jabello donated 11 points in UC’s ninth win in 10 games that firmed up its hold of the solo number one spot.
UC took control of the match in the fourth when it uncorked a 10-2 surge that broke a 47-all standoff.
Karl Langahin fired 13 markers to lead the slumping Panthers, who absorbed their sixth loss in 11 outings.
In the other game, the Wildcats crashed back to earth after they succumbed to the defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 79-98.
Josue Segumpan scattered 19 points while five other Green Lancers scored in twin digits.
Michael Maestre coughed up 16 points and 11 rebounds, Rey Suerte tallied 15, Jafet Claridad pitched in 14, Jiesel Tarrosa contributed 11 and Gileant Delator had 10 for UV, which stayed at second place with a 7-3 (win-loss) records.
The Wildcats saw their two-game win streak come to an end and fall to 2-8.
