CEBU CITY–The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will be the hottest team entering the semifinal round as they nosed out the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 88-87, at the close of the eliminations of the 2019 Cesafi Partner’s Cup last Saturday, July 27, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Jasper Pacana scored on a floater with 15.6 seconds left, sealing the Webmasters’ clean sweep of the second round of eliminations to finish with a 9-3 (win-loss) slate.
The Final Four round will begin on Monday, July 29, wherein a gargantuan task awaits UC as it will face the twice-to-beat the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras.
The other semis duel will have the Green Lancers going up against the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors. UV is armed with a twice-to-beat bonus in that series.
Rodel Gravera paced UC with 16 points, while Paul Galinato added 15.
Melvin Butohan scored 21 to lead UV, which ended the eliminations with back-to-back losses but still ended up as the top seed in the semis owing to its 10-2 slate.
In the other match, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers capped their pre-season campaign with an 83-79 triumph over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats.
The Panthers finished their campaign with four wins and eight losses, while the Wildcats could only muster a 1-11 record.
In the high school division, the semis pairings will be UV versus Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and University of San Jose-Recoletos against UC.
The Baby Lancers and the Baby Jaguars will be twice-to-beat in their respective series.
