17 September 2019

CEBU CITY—The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors leaned on the endgame heroics of Kurt Trangia to defeat the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 81-74, in the 2019 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday, September 17, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Trangia scored seven straight points in a crucial stretch, allowing the Warriors to survive despite the fouling out of reinforcement Sommy Managor with still 3:46 left in the match.

USC was just ahead by three points, 72-69, when the speedy guard Trangia converted back-to-back layups that gave his team a crucial 76-69 cushion with 1:09 left.

Trangia and Roosvelt Jelianggao then combined for three straight free throws that sealed USC’s third win in four games.

Jules Langres and Managor paced the Warriors with 15 points each, Magic Marata donated 14 points while Mangubat submitted 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Trangia also wound up with 12, all coming in the fourth, and also added seven rebounds.          Jesse Aloro Jr. piled up 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Jemcerson Sable had 21 markers for the Wildcats, who remained winless after two games.
