CEBU CITY—The reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars and the Tuburan dribblers chalked up separate wins to stay unbeaten in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament last Monday, April 22, at the Alegria Municipal Gym.
Talisay pounded the Minglanilla Archangels, 91-78, while Tuburan took out Sogod, 90-81, as the two winning teams now share the number one spot in Bracket B with similar 3-0 (win-loss) records.
Minglanilla crashed to 2-2, while Sogod stayed winless in four matches in the quarters.
Kendrick Abarquez topped Talisay with 15 points, Keaton Taburnal and John Villabrille donated 14 apiece, while Jay Deiparine chipped in 12.
Romyr Gonzaga and Joeid Maglasang showed the way for Tuburan with 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Also scoring in double figures for Tuburan were Raindee Sipalay and Miguelito Jusay, who wound up with 18 and 11, respectively.
Barging into the win column in Bracket B was Alegria, which didn’t disappoint its supporters by posting a 111-99 win over Tabuelan.
Alegria got a huge lift from Cris Ryan Garcia and Jamil Mahinay, who each fired 24 points to lead their squad to its first win after a 0-3 start in the quarters.
Tabuelan fell to 1-3.
In Bracket A, Danao City tasted its first win in three matches via a 96-70 trouncing of Dumanjug at the Balamban Sports Complex.
Dumanjug dropped to 0-3.
Medellin, on the other hand, improved to 3-1 by netting a 94-84 triumph over Argao.
