CEBU CITY—The defending champions Talisay City Aquastars and the Minglanilla Archangels advanced to the next round of the 2019 Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament after they posted separate wins in the First District action last Saturday night, March 30, at the San Fernando Municipal Gym in southern Cebu.
The Aquastars pummeled the San Fernando Spartans in front of their supporters, 74-63, while Minglanilla likewise scored an easy victory with a 101-57 dumping of Sibonga.
It was Talisay’s fourth win in five games, while Minglanilla improved to 3-2.
Minglanilla, Carcar City and Naga City actually ended the initial round with similar records but it was the Archangels who clinched a seat in the next round owing to their superior quotient.
Minglanilla, the league’s inaugural champion, netted a quotient of 1.036, Naga had 1.032, while Carcar had 0.93.
Also moving to the next round in the Second District was Argao, which demolished Santander, 80-69, in its homecourt.
Argao joined Samboan in the next after they both finished the initial round with 4-1 slates.
Making it to the next round in the Third District District were Tuburan and Balamban, which both wound up with 3-1 cards after the first round.
