CEBU CITY—The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras put an end to two straight losses by dominating the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 77-59, on Thursday, October 3, in the college division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Evening their win-loss record to 3-3, the Cobras were led by Shaq Imperial and Lamine Thiam with 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Thiam also had 20 rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in a productive showing by SWU’s foreign-student athlete.
The Cobras easily snapped their slide by taking a 30-18 lead at the bend. Thiam and Imperial teamed up in a 13-4 blast, allowing the Cobras to hike their lead to 42-23.
USJ-R couldn’t even bring the deficit to single digit and went on to taste its fifth loss in six games.
In the high school division, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers nailed their fourth win in five games by edging out the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 54-52.
AJ Sacayan led the way for the Green Lancers with 20 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Sacayan also helped UV seal the win by coming up with a steal in the final 6.6 seconds and the Baby Lancers leading, 53-52.
Dwight Buisa scored 13 markers for CEC, which stumbled to their third loss in six games.
