Manila, Philippines – College of St. Benilde is back on the winning column after giving Jose Rizal University its fifth loss in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament, 81-66, Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
After a devastating loss to San Beda University last week, 75-69, the Blazers were all serious on the game from the get-go, disabling the Heavy Bombers from taking the lead.
Due to the intensity of the game, a scuffle between the two teams took place in the 4:23 minute mark in the second quarter after Unique Naboa crashed into the court as he tried to get the ball, but the opposing team eventually piled on top of him.
The referees threw out Justin Padua of JRU after he was seen throwing some punches, while they gave Blazers’ Justin Gutang a warning.
The Blazers took the opportunity and led 10 points to finish the first half, 37-27. They never looked back as they trampled on the diffused Heavy Bombers and led by as much as 17 points in the game.
Clement Leutcheu led CSB with a double-double record of 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Yankie Haruna had 15 markers.
Edward Dixon and Naboa chipped in 10 points each for the win, as the Blazers record a 2-2 win-loss slate in the standings.
On the other hand, Jed Mendoza had 16 points and Mark Mallari scored 14 points as the JRU remains winless in the tournament after five games.
