The defending champions San Beda College Red Lions continued to make its way to the top after eliminating another competition, which is the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Friday, 88-51 in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

This is San Beda’s 14th straight win to retain second place with a 15-1 card. Meanwhile, EAC are now out of the Final Four race after being handed their fourth straight defeat to drop to a 6-10 record.

“We’re hoping to be this consistent, especially since this is the first time we won by 37 points,” said Coach Boyet Fernandez. “I will just preach consistency with our execution and defense.”

EAC paced with a 5-0 run early in the contest, but the Red Lions were just warming up as they answered back with a 26-6 run to end the first quarter with a 26-11 lead.

Coming from an ugly win over Perpetual Altas, 55-50 last Tuesday due to inconsistency, the Red Lions made sure to correct their ways and dominated the game from start to finish to lead by as much as 37 points in the contest.

“We cannot win against LPU if we won’t be consistent in our execution and our defense. Our game against Letran will be the barometer on how we’ll fare against LPU,” added Fernandez.

AC Soberano powered San Beda with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with three rebounds, while Javee Mocon had a double-double 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Donald Tankoua also finished with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds and Franz Abuda chipped it 10 markers.

Meanwhile, Robert Bolick had a team-best 12 assists with six points and three rebounds.

Sidney Onwubere, on the other hand, led EAC with 22 points, six rebounds and two assists.
