Ramon Gonzales falls anew against Indonesian foe

By Kevin Estrada

Ramon Gonzales lost his second consecutive bout at ONE Championship, after being choked to submission by Indonesia’s Eko Roni Saputra at Inside the Matrix II Friday in Singapore.

In the flyweight undercard, Saputra was relentless in putting the Bicolano to the ground as he prevailed in their lightweight undercard with a convincing submission at the 4:07 mark of the very first round.

Trying to negate the punching power of Gonzales, the Dynamite went to his wrestling skills that had the Kyokushin standout cornered.

From then on it was all Saputra as he set up his finish by a series of strikes before cementing his win with a rear naked choke for his fourth straight win, pushing him in contention to enter the rankings.

Meanwhile, Gonzales fell to 3-4 in ONE after incurring his second straight defeat.

In the main event, reigning ONE Welterweight World Champion Kiamrian “Brazen” Abbasov of Kyrgyzstan delivered a sensational come-from-behind technical knockout victory over previously unbeaten contender James Nakashima of the United States.
