Ever since the off-season began, team manager Dan Palami has set his goals for the UP Fighting Maroons in an effort to get the team back to its glory days in the UAAP after another bottom place finish last season . One of his major steps is the suggestion of ‘virtually’ vacating the head coaching position to widen their choices for the job and to welcome other applicants.
One of the most favored applicants for the said position is Ramil Cruz who has served as assistant coach during Rey Madrid’s stint as head coach for the Maroons last season.
Cruz, who was a member of the 1984 UP championship squad, is said to have gained support from team backers according to some sources.
Interestingly, Cruz was the one calling the shots for the UP Fighting Maroons when they got their only victory in UAAP 77 when Rey Madrid was suspended during their first round encounter with the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
Though, team officials has yet to confirm about the development and said that a formal announcement will be made in the near future.
