After placing ninth last season, the Lyceum Pirates made a historic run as they remain unbeatable taking their 13th straight win in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at the expense of Perpetual, 94-83 on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“It’s really something that we are not accustomed to, but part of the journey is making it here,” said Lyceum Coach Topex Robinson.
MVP candidate, Prince Eze, almost led Perpetual to overturn the game after an 11-2 run with the help of Keith Pido, to cut the deficit, 85-81.
However, CJ Perez stopped them from making another point and kept the Pirates afloat with a drive from behind followed by a surprising assist to Jaycee Marcelino, who took the game winning corner trey that sealed their sure Final Four spot.
Perez powered the Pirates with 21 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals, while Mike Nzeusseu made a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. Jayvee Marcelino added 15 points and four rebounds, while his twin brother made 11 markers and three boards.
Eze, on the other hand, boosted Perpetual with a game-high double-double record of 26 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks,
Gab Dagangon added 17 points and four rebounds in the defeat, as they dropped to a 4-8 card in the team standings.
