The University of Perpetual Help’s win over the College of St. Benilde, 69-65, was forfeited by the NCAA due to a uniform violation on Tuesday evening at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Earlier in the day, the NCAA league had already ruled the Atlas as ineligible to play in their debut game in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament, because they wore their maroon jerseys instead of their light uniforms, which was scheduled beforehand.

“After extensive discussions and careful deliberation by the members of the Management Committee, any athlete whose playing uniform does not conform with the rules are ineligible to participate in a given match,” stated from the NCAA league, signed by the participating NCAA Season 93 schools and Chairman Fr. Glynn Ortega.

Atlas’ Coach Jimwell Gican stated that his team was not aware of the scheduled uniform during the team’s games as someone else prepares and assigns the uniforms to be used.

“Wala din ako masyadong info dun eh. As a coach, focus lang kami sa trabaho namin. Di kasi namin trabaho yung sa uniform, may in-charge dun,” said Gican during the post-game interview.

Gican enjoyed the team’s win while it lasted early in the day, and noted that they “got lucky.” But their luck was easily taken away from them as Perpetual drops to a 0-1 record.

The Blazers had their first win of the season under new coach Ty Tang, 1-0, which was also their total number of win from last season.
