The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons prevailed over the Adamson University Lady Falcons in a five-set duel, 25-18, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 16-14 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Saturday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

As if the match were the scripted, UP and Adamson got the sets alternately and met in a deciding set.

The fifth set started with the Lady Maroons and Lady Falcons exchanging attacks. UP was able to maintain a two-point lead towards the latter part of the set, but a combination play featuring a strong middle attack by Eli Soyud followed by a through-the-block hit by Chiara Permentilla gave the lead to Adamson, 13-12, after being down as much as three.

Tots Carlos responded right away, but another middle attack by Adamson brought them to match point. Carlos once again rose to the challenge and came up with two clutch attacks to keep them alive and to steal the match point. Ayel Estranero then surprised the defense of the Lady Falcons with a well-placed shot targeting the zone one to complete the denial on Adamson.

The duo of Tots Carlos and Isa Molde finished with 22 and 18 points, respectively, but they got some help from their middle hitter Ali Buitre who contributed 12 markers. Ayel Estranero displayed versatility with 3 service aces, 12 excellent digs, and 31 excellent receptions.

Jema Galanza tallied an MVP performance with another triple-double built on 18 attacks, 11 excellent digs, and 12 excellent receptions.
